Maria kept a note of what she would do everyday in a notebook. That notebook was a very prized possession of hers. One morning she wrote her daily chores and kept it on the window pane and went to the bathroom.
A monkey came from nowhere and took the notebook away. When Maria returned she was unable to find the notebook. She looked everywhere but there was no sign of it. And then she spotted it in the hands of a monkey atop a tree. She rushed to the terrace and saw the monkey still sitting there with her notebook. She called the monkey and ordered it to give it back. It kept the book on the tree and came to the terrace. The monkey asked the girl why she needs the diary. Maria said that all her daily chores are written there. The monkey asked her why she can’t remember what she has to do. Maria said it was her habit and she would be unable to stay without it.
The monkey asked what she was to do that day. Maria told the monkey. Then it said “look you remember everything, you didn’t need the diary”. Maria was amazed. The monkey said that one should try to remember what one was supposed to do and should not keep on referring to the notes. The monkey gave her the notebook back and asked her not to use it again. She was happy now and promised to remember everything. She didn’t need the diary after that incident.
