Calcium in Children

The mineral which helps in building bones of the children is calcium. Hence it is necessary to feed on food which has adequate level of calcium. Calcium is needed for the development of bones at a regular basis. This will not only help the children to be strong, it will also help them to remain healthy. Moreover, children these days prefer to watch television and stay at home to involving in physical exercises. This results in weakening of the bones, thus the calcium is the most important requirement for the children and their proper growth. Children of different ages need to have different amount of calcium for developing the bones to grow strong.

Toddlers of 1-3 years need to have calcium of 500mg each day for their benefit; this can be met by making them drink 2 glasses of milk. Children ranging from 4-8 years need about 800mg of calcium a day which means about 3 glasses of milk in a day whereas 1300 mg of milk each day is necessary for children from 9-18 years of age. Milk has lot of calcium content in it and this helps in meeting the children’s daily calcium requirements. Children allergic to milk can go for other food which can give them the adequate calcium required for the proper growth of the body and making bones strong. Parents should see that children who do not like drinking milk are eating other food containing the calcium. There are certain level of calcium content in different food items, parents should choose the one perfect for their children.
