Electricity
What is electricity? It is a form of energy that keeps gadgets and machines going the same way pizzas and chocolates get you going. At your home, it powers light bulbs, television, washing machine, air conditioners and more.
Electricity is created by the movement of electrons, which create forces of electrical field and thus generate energy. Electrical energy can be produced by various means such as generators driven by steam, nuclear reactions, wind energy, solar energy, etc. One of the cleanest sources of energy is the nuclear energy. Before electricity was invented, fireplaces were used to keep the house warm, candles and kerosene lamps were used for lighting up home, stoves heated by wood or coal were used for cooking and food was kept cool in ice boxes.
So how does electricity work at your home? If you have seen any electrical appliance, it contains a variety of devices such as motors, capacitors, resistors, batteries, etc. The battery supplies electricity to the entire circuit to make the appliance work. Similarly, a bigger battery called power plant supplies electricity through wires (called transmission lines) to make all your household appliances work.
If you have heard of anybody getting an electric shock, it is because electrical current passes through their body (body contains mostly water which is a good conductor of electricity). It is quite safe to use electricity, as long as you keep distance and respect it.
