Child Play
Play is officially recognized by the United Nations High commission for Human Rights as a child’s birth right. It is a well known fact that plays develop children into healthy and creative individuals. Children use play to learn about this world. They use all their sensory organs to learn the world around them. It must not be considered a break from education, but a very important part of it.
When children play, they use objects, people they see and surroundings to test their thoughts and ideas. They develop social skills by playing together.
There are just so many games for children to play these days. Be it sports, puzzles, or switch games, there is plenty to choose from. Apart from well known games such as Crossword puzzles, scrabble, etc other educational games which have become increasingly effective include pretend play, a game where children take on roles, change objects in expressing their views and feelings about the external world.
Parents have to remember certain points when it comes to play time for children:
• They should observe what games their children like to play and should join them from time to time
• They must buy toys which encourage and help develop the creative skills of the child.
• Must build a social atmosphere, by arranging for group play, outdoor play, etc
• Must make the atmosphere safe and enjoyable to play. For example, conflicts are common while children talk with each other, adults can help when they cannot sort it out amongst themselves.
