Decorating a Child’s Room
Decorating a Child’s Room
A child’s room is his refuge from the outside world. It is also his realm and the place where he is the lord and master. Therefore it should always be decorated to suit his tastes, or at least adapted to suit his requests without making it look like something from Disneyland!!
Colour:
The simplest way to make a room look bright and happy is by using colours everywhere. They can be muted in some places and there can be splashes of bright colours in some spots. Let him choose the colours, but the placing can be determined by you.
Posters and Wall Hangings:
Children love posters of their favourite characters all around the room. This individualises their space for them, and also brightens and livens up the walls.
Spaces in the room:
Always leave a lot of space for the children to play in or just sprawl on the floors. They need to be able to move around easily, and even if you give them chairs, they are likely to sit on the floor or on the rugs. Place fluffy, washable rugs all around and they will be the most used areas in the room.
Furniture:
The furniture should be easy to clean, since there are sure to be marks all over them very soon. There should be no sharp edges which can hurt the children. Above all the cupboards should be easy to open and close, and there should be ample open shelves, so that children can just put their books and toys there.
Do not give them a spick and span designer room, give them a comfortable, happy space they can call their own.
