Do not make mealtimes into warzones
For young parents and their even younger children, mealtimes turn into warzones. The parents are worried that their children are not getting enough nutrition, the children would prefer to eat junk food and avoid vegetables altogether, and in this process no one is happy.
Meal times should be relaxed times, rather than moments of stress. The first thing that parents must remember is that your child has specific choices about what he wants to eat. Respect those choices, and gently try to introduce him to newer foods. If he does want vegetables, then maybe you can try to introduce them by cooking them in a different manner.
Children learn from their parents. Set a good example by eating all types of foods, and also by making mealtimes an occasion where everyone gathers together to talk and eat. Children pick up the cue very quickly and will eat happily when sitting on the table with adults.
Do not introduce children to junk food at an early age. Do not encourage them to have colas when they are thirsty or eat potato chips as a snack. Keep only healthy snacks at home and soon they will get into the habit of eating only those snacks.
Take them grocery shopping. Let them choose some of the fruits and vegetables or meats which they like. Cook them the way they like them and the food will then be consumed rapidly.
Above all, do not get stressed about it. This will only make matters worse and they will eat even less!!
