Tips for Car Travel With Toddlers
Travelling happily with your toddler in your car for many hours is possible only if you plan your travel and all the ancillaries well in advance. You must anticipate every need of your child before you begin your journey and be prepared with everything that you may or may not need.
Toddlers need to be strapped in safely, so your first step should be to make sure that your car seat is in excellent condition. Also keep a cloth or sunshade ready so that they do not have the sun shining on them
Plan for frequent stops, since toddlers can sit comfortably without getting fidgety for only about half an hour. If you can begin your journey at a time when they are about to begin their nap, then they will go to sleep in the car, and thus some part of the journey will be covered peacefully.
Keep their meals and drinks ready and handy so that you do not have to start mixing them or looking for them if they get hungry or thirsty.
Play music that they are familiar with frequently in the car. This will make them feel comfortable and at home. Â Intersperse these with their toys which you can give to them one at a time.
The trick is to keep them entertained and distracted, and this can easily be done with music, games and food.
Above all, you should remain calm and happy. Children pick up cues from their parents and if you are stressed and tired, they will quickly become restless and edgy.
