Travelling with Children? Keep Them Entertained
Children have very short attention spans, and unless they are kept busy and entertained, long drives can become very stressful with small children or even with slightly older ones. However if you plan well in advance then you can make the journey a lot less boring, and in the process also entertain yourself!
Try to make at least one stop every two hours or so. This gives a break in the journey and also gives them an opportunity to stretch their legs and visit the toilet. They also get a chance to eat something or maybe just have a quick drink to rejuvenate their tired minds.
There are many games which can be played while you are travelling in a car. The most popular one of course is the alphabet game. Pick an alphabet, and let the child point out anything in the car or going past on the road beginning with that alphabet. Try a different one with the next child, and keep a small treat such as a candy for the one who does the best in the shortest period of time. This however works only with children up to eight years old.
For older children play the game of songs or nursery rhymes beginning with the last letter of the previous song. All of us have played this at some time of our life, and it can still keep us singing along for many more years.
You can play charade even while you are seated in the car.
You can also play the game of Know Your Destination, where each one talks about the place where they are going, and thus they build up the eagerness for their final destination.
There are also many games available on the internet, which can be printed out, and handed to the children while travelling.
Enjoy Travelling
